They closed their online shop for the entire four-day weekend and encouraged their employees to volunteer and support local charities. One of the activities they engaged in was spending time at Suffolk Libraries, where they helped read to small children, played with them, and assisted customers with their queries. This experience was both fantastic and memorable for the employees, as it allowed them to contribute meaningfully while avoiding the consumer madness.

This year, Paddy & Scott's is taking a different approach. Instead of participating in the price slashing frenzy, they have decided to donate 10 school meals for every order made in their online shop. This initiative is part of their Lunch Box scheme, which provides school meals to children in coffee-growing regions. By ensuring these children have access to regular meals, they can focus on their studies without worrying about where their next meal will come from.

Jonathan Reed, the CEO of Paddy & Scott's, emphasises that they could easily join the retail craze and capitalise on one of the busiest weekends in the calendar. However, that goes against their ethical principles. As an ethically driven company, their focus is on empowering coffee farmers, people, and the planet.
