Brew-tiful Collaboration: Suffolk-Based Paddy & Scott's Joins Forces with Chefs' Whites Restaurant for a Culinary Coffee Adventure!

Suffolk-based coffee company, Paddy & Scott’s, teams up with Chefs' Whites Restaurant at Suffolk New College for a mouth-watering culinary explosion!

The name “Chef Whites” has become synonymous with culinary kitchens dating back to the late 1800s. We don’t actually know if the pristine white apron was born from the need to see dirt or for more practical reasons to protect clothing. Either way, it is worn as a badge of honour, making it a perfect name for the students' restaurant at Suffolk New College.

Open to all, whether you are looking for a Michelin-star guest chef evening like that hosted by the famous Dave Wall from The Unruly Pig or a popular themed night, there is so much to get your taste buds racing.

With a drive to change the world one cup at a time, coffee company Paddy & Scott’s teamed up with Suffolk New College’s Chefs' Whites to bring a coffee-themed menu created and served by students completing their culinary training programmes.

The evening started with a guest list as impressive as the food served: from esteemed Milsoms Hotels & Restaurants' General Manager Mr Ian Rhodes, Mr & Mrs Kett, owners of Fork Kitchen & Deli in Hadleigh, and David Scott, CEO of Hotel Folk, many tables were occupied.

On the night, guests were warmly welcomed with an Espresso Martini - decaf! The menu followed in the same vein with a delicious caramelised Jerusalem artichoke soup, served with coffee soda bread. The main course consisted of both a meat and vegetarian option: treacle and coffee-cured sirloin of beef or coffee-glazed celeriac, with empty plates confirming unanimous  satisfaction. The presentation and delivery of all dishes were exquisite, a testament to the outstanding training the students have received in both the kitchen and front of house.

Paddy & Scott’s very own barista, Sarah, had the absolute pleasure of being invited into Chefs' Whites' kitchen to shadow the chefs throughout the evening.

Sarah says, 'I had the incredible opportunity to step out from behind the coffee machine and into the kitchen for an evening at Chefs' Whites, where they crafted a coffee-themed menu in support of St. Elizabeth’s Hospice. Working alongside the student chefs, I gained a whole new appreciation for the precision and teamwork that goes into every dish. From infusing coffee into creative recipes to coordinating service, the experience was both challenging and inspiring. The team’s passion and camaraderie made the evening unforgettable, and I’m grateful for the chance to have been part of it. The energy in the kitchen was just as strong as the espresso they served.’

A raffle took place in the evening with fantastic gifts donated from Seckford Hall, Brudenell Hotel, Paddy & Scott’s, and River Hill. £480 was raised for the incredible charity, St Elizabeth Hospice.

In true Paddy & Scott’s style, along with a coffee-themed menu, all guests were charmed with a brief overview of Paddy & Scott’s by Owner and CEO Jon Reed, followed by a heartfelt few words from St Elizabeth Hospice Chair of the Board, Ian Turner.

Ian said: ‘We were delighted to be involved in the recent Paddy & Scott's dinner at Suffolk New College Chefs’ Whites Restaurant.

Every penny raised will go towards our services which annually support over 4,000 people and families across the region who are living with progressive or life-limiting illness. It costs around £12 million a year to run these services - with 70% funded by community support.

Bringing together supporters, such as David Scott, CEO of The Hotel Folk who is running the London Marathon this year in support of the hospice, to enjoy a fantastic meal prepared by students, made for an exceptional evening.

We are hugely grateful to Paddy & Scott's Head of Service; Amanda Cable, for inspiring this partnership. Amanda's mother died in 2024 and spent her last days in the hospice.’

Student Logan, when asked about her motivation for obtaining a Level 2 in Hospitality Services and a Level 3 qualification in patisserie and cookery, said, 'I love going with my nan to little cafes to eat cake. Having a small cafe of my own in Woodbridge would be an amazing achievement, and she can enjoy my cakes too!.’

A memorable evening was enjoyed by all, raising substantial funds for a worthy cause.
